Abbiamo invitato nelle nostre pagine la produttrice di una musica dolce, che trasmette più di quanto è in grado di trasmettere un’anima. Semplicemente perché è questa musica una vera anima.
Parliamo della musica di Zoë Straub, chiamata comunemente Zoë. Cantante austriaca, quasi un angelo che canta. Voce che porta miracoli, soave e allo stesso tempo intensa, le cui corde vocali si uniscono alla melodia che conduce verso luoghi lontani. La musica di Zoë è una musica che viaggia e che permette all’ascoltatore di viaggiare con lei; è come prendere un areoplano e dirigersi in posti sconosciuti e ignoti. Zoë è dunque una costruttrice di ali, che diventano sempre più bianchi e puri grazie alla lingua francese che spesso utilizza nelle sue canzoni, una lingua capace di rendere tutto meravigliosamente magico.
Zoë Straub è nata a Vienna da genitori musicisti.All’età di sei anni ha preso parte al progetto musicale dei genitori Papermoon, nella canzone Doop Doop (Baby Remix). Nel 2007, Straub ha participato al talent show austiaco “Kiddy Contest”, dove ha interpretato la cover di Engel ohne Flügel, originariamente cantata da Nicole. Ha frequentato il liceo francese di Vienna. Nel 2015 Zoë Straub ha recitato nella serie televisiva Vorstadtweiber trasmessa dalla ORF. Nello stesso anno ha preso parte alle selezioni nazionali per l’Eurovision Song Contest 2015, dove si è classificata al terzo posto con la canzone Quel filou, da lei stessa composta insieme a suo padre Christof. Si è poi esibita nella Rathausplatz di Vienna, nei giorni in cui la città ha ospitato l’Eurovision Song Contest 2015. In ottobre ha pubblicato il suo primo album Debut. Nel febbraio 2016 ha vinto la finale delle selezioni nazionali per l’Eurovision Song Contest 2016 di Stoccolma con la canzone Loin d’ici. Partecipando nella prima semifinale e piazzandosi settima, Zoe ha qualificato l’Austria per la finale del concorso, dove poi ha raggiunto il tredicesimo posto.
Lasciamo la parola a Zoë con l’augurio di proseguire in questo meraviglioso percorso.
D: Come definiresti la tua passione per la musica?
R: La musica è la mia vita. Essendo cresciuta in una famiglia di musicisti, la musica era sempre intorno a me. Mio padre aveva il suo studio di registrazione nella nostra casa, e vedevo spesso quello che faceva, quando ero molto piccola. Ascoltavamo tutti i generi di musica a casa nostra, dalla classica, ai musical, fino al pop e rock. Cantavamo tanto insieme. E’ stato molto divertente, e attualmente è questo quello che la musica rappresenta per me.
D: Come la musica ha cambiato la tua vita?
R: La musica è un valido supplemento per la mia vita. Amo ascoltarla, amo scriverla, amo esibirmi. E’ anche un buon metodo per entrare in contatto con le proprie emozioni (sia positive che negative). La musica è una terapia per sé stessi.
D: Quali artisti sono stati fonte d’ispirazione per la tua musica?
R: Per quanto riguarda la parte della scrittura, i Beatles e gli ABBA. Per quanto riguarda invece le performances, mi piacciono molto Beyoncè, Christina Aguilera e molti altri.
D: Una delle tue esperienze più importanti è stata quella all’Eurovision 2016. Qual è il tuo più bel ricordo riguardo quell’esperienza?
R: Quando è stato pronunciato il mio nome per la semifinale. Ero molto tesa, credevo di non poter accedere. E’ stato incredibilmente bello poter ascoltare il mio nome in quel momento.
D: Quali erano le tue aspettative inerenti all’Eurovision?
R: Per me è stato un grande traguardo già essere a Stoccolma; è stato un onore per me rappresentare l’Austria, e tutto quello che desideravo era potervi partecipare. Quindi le mie aspettative non erano molte alte, ho cercato di non aspettarmi nulla.
D: Come descriveresti la tua musica per chi non la conosce?
R: Il mio primo album “Debut” è un mix di canzoni francesi con un ritmo moderno. Abbiamo lavorato con gli elementi del jazz francese come la chitarra gipsy e i violini, mescolandoli con suoni dal beat elettronico.
D: Qual è stata l’esperienza per te più bella fatta dopo l’Eurovision?
R: Sono contenta si siano aperte nuove porte nel mondo europeo, essendo conosciuta quindi anche da un pubblico internazionale.
D: Cosa ci racconti riguardo il tuo ultimo singolo “La nuit des merveilles”?
R: “La nuit des merveilles” è stato il mio singolo natalizio del 2016. E’ una vecchia canzone di natale che mio padre scrisse per la sua vecchia band Papermoon negli anni ’90. Ho sempre amato questa canzone e speravo di poterne fare una mia versione un giorno.
D: Come immagini la tua vita nel futuro?
R: Vorrei continuare a scrivere musica e esibirmi, ma vorrei concentrarmi anche nella recitazione come ho fatto negli ultimi due anni. Amo entrambi i mondi e non vorrei abbandonarne uno.
D: Quali sono i tuoi futuri progetti?
R: Al momento sto lavorando al mio nuovo album che sarà realizzato nel 2017. Stiamo scrivendo tante canzoni e tra poco inizieremo a lavorare alla produzione.

Today we invited in our pages the creator of a sweet music, who transmits more than a soul is able to transmit. Simply because this music is the real soul.
We talk about the music of Zoë Straub, called commonly Zoë. Austrician singer, an angel who sings. Voice that carries miracles; suave and intense at the same time. Her vocal cords are connected to the melody that carries to distant places. The music of Zoë is a music that travels and allow the listener to travel with her; it’s like taking an airplane and going to unknown places. So, Zoë is a builder of two wings, that become more and more white and pure, also thanks to the french language that she often uses in her songs, a language that is able to make everything wonderfully magical.
Zoë Straub was born in the Austrian capital, Vienna, to musician parents. At the age of six, she featured in a song by her parents’ musical project, Papermoon, called “Doop Doop (Baby Remix)”. In 2007, Straub participated in the Austrian reality singing competition Kiddy Contest, where she covered “Engel ohne Flügel”, originally performed by Mark Medlock, a German singer, while she was attending Lycée Français de Vienne (French High School of Vienna), where she studied for nine years. Straub appeared on ORF television series Vorstadtweiber in 2015. She also competed in the Austrian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, where she eventually placed third with the song “Quel filou”, written by Straub herself and her father, Christof Straub. She performed live at Rathausplatz while Vienna was serving as the host city of Eurovision Song Contest 2015. In October 2015, she released her début album Debut. On 12 January 2016, she was announced as one of the participants of the Austrian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, and on 12 February 2016 she emerged as the winner of the national final and therefore represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song “Loin d’ici” in Stockholm, Sweden; qualified for the grand final where she placed 13th in total and 8th in televoting. On 29 April 2016, she released a reissued version of Debut.

Q: How can you define your passion for music?
A: Music is my life. Since I grew up in a family of musicians, music was always around. My father had his recording studio at our home, and I used to come to him to see what he was doing, when I was very little. We listened to all kinds of music at home. From classical music, to musicals and of course lots of pop and rock music. And we sand a lot together. It was always fun, and this is what music means to me until today.
Q: How the music has changed your life?
A: Music is such a valuable supplement to life. I love listening to it, I love writing it and I love to be on stage. And music is such a good way to deal with emotions (good and bad ones). Making music is something like a self-therapy.
Q: Which artists were for you inspiration for your music?
A: For songwriting it is The Beatles, ABBA.In terms of performers, I admire Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and many others
Q: One of your important experience is “Euro Vision 2016”. What is your best memory about this adventure?
A: When my name was called in the voting in the Semi-final. I was so nervous that I might not come to the final. It was such a relief and I was incredibly happy when I heard that we did it!
Q: What were your expectations about Euro vision?
A: I already had reached my goal, when I came to Stockholm, because I was so happy to represent Austria, and all I wanted is to take part in this great event. So, my expectations were not too high, and I tried to expect nothing.
Q: How can you describe your music to people that don’t know it?
A: My first album „Debut“ is a mixture of french chanson with modern beats, I would say. We work with elements of the french Jazz-era like gipsy guitars and solo violin, and we mix it with modern elements like electro-beats.
Q: Which is the experience after Euro vision that you loved more?
A: I was great that we got the chance to get out to an international audience, and we could open some doors in some euopeean countries.
Q: What can you tell us about your new single “La nuit des merveilles”?
A: La nuit des merveilles“ was my Christmas Single 2016. It’s a french version of a Christmas song that my father wrote for his old band Papermoon in the 90ties. I always loved it and wanted to do my own version one day.
Q: How can you imagine your life in the future?
A: I want to continue with writing and performing music, but I always want to focus on acting, like I did in the last 2 years. I love it both and don’t want to give one thing up.
Q: What are your future projects?
A: At the moment, I am working on my new album, that will be released in late 2017. We are currently writing a lot of songs, and we’ll start producing them very soon.
